  Pioneer Network and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) are collaborating to offer this special online symposium to focus specifically on culture change and dining. Originally developed as a day-long event in Baltimore, the February mid-Atlantic storms forced a cancellation of the symposium. After a solid two years of preparation, including the gathering of some of the most sought-after minds in culture change and dining, Pioneer Network feels the information is too rich to be lost to Mother Nature's whims. The result is a dynamic learning experience within these pages, featuring a comprehensive background paper, keynote remarks and presentations by nine national experts offered as individual webinars with accompanying papers, including:
- A background paper prepared by Carmen S. Bowman, MSH, Regulator turned Educator, Edu-Catering: Catering Education for Compliance and Culture Change, which sets the historical framework for this symposium. We encourage you to read this paper in preparation for the webinars and symposium experience. Download Background Paper;
- Presentation by Judah Ronch, PhD, Interim Dean of the Erickson School, regarding the powerful link between Dining and Memory;
- National experts, including Linda Bump, MPH, RD, LNHA, registered dietitian and licensed nursing home administrator, presenting on critical issues regarding food, dining and self-directed living;
- Clinicians addressing barriers and solutions through the lens of their profession. Included are Matt Wayne, MD, CMD, Medical Director of University Hospitals Senior Services and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio and Karyn Leible, MD, CMD, Chief Clinical Officer for Pinon Management and Vice President for the American Medical Directors Association, focusing on role of physicians while Denise Hyde, PharmD, RP, Consultant Pharmacist and Community Builder Eden Alternative, raises key issues pertaining to the role the pharmacist;
- Linda Handy, MS, RD, Owner of Handy Dietary Consulting, exploring potential regulatory and survey issues related to food and dining innovations;
- Outcomes of Choice in Dining by Robin Remsburg, PhD, GCNS, FAAN, Director of the School of Nursing and Associate Dean for the College of Health and Human Serives at George Mason University.
- Presentations by Glenda Lewis, MSPH, from the Food and Drug Administration on the national Food Code and Nimalie Stone, MD, MS of the Center for Disease Control on the CDC infection control guidelines; and
- Finding presented by Rosanna Bertrand, PhD, and Sandra Simmons, PhD, members of the Agency for Health Research and Quality (AHRQ) research team from their Study of Paid Feeding Assistant Programs.
